PORTLAND, Ore. – A wine auction sponsored by Clark County School Employees Credit Union Vancouver, Washington, and Financial Service Centers Cooperative, Inc. has helped raise $40,000 for Credit Unions for Kids. The wine auction is part of the Oregon/Southwest Washington Credit Unions for Kids $1 million-dollar pledge to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, a Children’s Miracle Network hospital, in 2003. The $1 million pledge will finish the credit unions’ $2.5 million pledge to endow the Chief of Pediatrics position at the hospital. Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is the only pediatric hospital in the state of Oregon that offers bone marrow transplants and treats 90% of the children with cancer in the state. Since it is located on the Oregon Health & Science University campus, there are treatments and therapies offered at Doernbecher that patients would have to travel to Seattle or San Francisco for otherwise. The wine auction included not only fine wines donated by Northwest and California wineries, but also entertainment by three of the leading blues artists in the country- Linda Hornbuckle, Lloyd Jones, and Paul Delay.
