Boeing Employees Credit Union, Tukwila, Wash., has sponsored the KCTS Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest for the fourth consecutive year. The contest promotes education, literacy and creativity in children. Eight winning entries were selected, an honorable mention and first place award for each grade. Stories will be presented on air by their young authors during the KCTS weekly broadcast of Reading Rainbow, a national public television series that encourages a love of reading in children, over the next several months. Constitution Corporate Federal Credit Union, Wallingford, Conn., employees have sold 3,500 raffle tickets to raise a total of $7,000 for the Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation. This is the third year that Constitution has achieved the highest number of ticket sales for this annual charitable endeavor. Furthermore, Constitution awarded those employees selling more than 50 raffle tickets each with a top-of-the-line windbreaker. The Connecticut Credit Union Charitable Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides direct grants to in-state nonprofit organizations in need of financial support. Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Pa., employees have laced up their sneakers and donated their time to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event. This is the seventh year the credit union employees have taken part in both the 5K run and 5K walk. Funds raised will go toward breast cancer research. SAFE Federal Credit Union, Sumter, S.C., has awarded 15 laptops to lucky members as prizes from a drawing to introduce the new eMember program. The eMember program is for members who prefer to conduct financial business electronically and receive benefits for doing so. The program rewards members who use SAFE FCU’s electronic transaction options with discounted loan and credit card rates, free online bill pay service, bank wires and more. South Carolina Federal Credit Union, Charleston, has donated over $9,500 to the March of Dimes during WalkAmerica. The credit union sponsored three teams in Charleston, Columbia and Georgetown. In addition, S.C. FCU sponsored a team of 45 walkers and funds raised will provide research and programs to save infants. Arkansas Federal Credit Union, Jacksonville, has awarded lucky member Stephen Dillon $1,000. Dillon submitted an entry online for the $1,000 CarSale.com Giveaway. CarSale.com is continuing the contest through the summer with $1,000 to be awarded each month to one lucky credit union member who submits an entry on the Web site, which enables credit union members to search for a new or used vehicle based on current rebates, comparisons of new car models side-by-side, or based on their ideal monthly payment. Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, Texas, has donated $1,000 to help 11 students from Centennial High School in their quest to attend the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Conference in Dallas, Texas this summer. The donation will be used to help the students with travel and lodging expenses and registration fees. US Federal Credit Union, Burnsville, Minn., employees have raised over $2,400 to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Lending Center Representative Renee Trinka spearheaded the month-long effort, which included casual dress days, sundaes for staff, and a traveling breakfast cart. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society supports a wide range of research and educational efforts, and continually act as advocates for people with disabilities. Their nationwide network of chapters assists over a million individuals stricken with the disease. In Minnesota, over 6,500 participated in the MS Walk. Cabrillo Credit Union, San Diego, and Sharp Credit Union have raised over $1,300 to benefit the Spirit of Caring Mobile Healthcare Clinic. The credit unions sold $1.00 paper stars to members and vendors. The Spirit of Caring Mobile Healthcare Clinic provides free medical services to the children of South Bay and Chula Vista. The clinic’s efforts have resulted in a decrease in school absenteeism and a reduction in emergency room visits. John Deere Community Credit Union, Waterloo, Iowa, has sponsored a day of free activities at Kids’ Zone during My Waterloo Days. Over 5,000 attended the event held at Cedar River Park. Kids’ Zone featured four zones of free activities for kids of all ages from entertainment and extreme zones to the creative and learning zone.
