RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia State Police has just upped the ante on insurance fraud. Those willing to report fraudulent insurance claims are now being offered a $25,000 reward. Although the state does not have a law specifically outlawing insurance fraud, in 1999 the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud helped establish an insurance fraud division here. Funded by an assessment paid by insurance companies, the rewards program and division isn't affected by state budget problems. So far the tip line, (877) 623-7283, has received over 3,300 calls.
