Pacific Resource Credit Union, Los Angeles, Calif., staffers have donated their time to the fifth Annual Hope for Firefighters Event. Pacific Resource staffed a beverage booth to quench the thirsts of more than 4,000 people in attendance, helping to raise funds benefiting the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Widow and Orphans Fund. This annual event lets the Bunker Hill Business Community demonstrate its appreciation for the Los Angeles Firefighters with a celebration including a parade, live entertainment, firehouse food and fire muster games. Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., Senior Vice President of Marketing/Public Relations/Business Development Sharon Phillips has presented a $5,000 check to CEO Executive Director Karen Gorden during the YouthBuild Program graduation. YouthBuild is a 12-month program that offers job training, education counseling and leadership development opportunities to unemployed and out of school young adults age 16-24. Each of the eight graduates also received a graduation gift of $25 from CCFCU. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., has sponsored a Fire Safety Awareness Program at Telfair Regional Hospital. Assistant Fire Chief Robby Williams demonstrated how to use a smoke detector and gave free detectors to everyone who needed them for their home. Community One Federal Credit Union, Las Vegas, has sponsored the 2003 Bridge Competition. Private engineering companies, University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Engineering, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation all participate in encouraging students with an interest in engineering to build their bridges and try out for the competition each year. The team that creates the bridge weighing the least and is able to accommodate the most weight before it collapses is declared the winner.
