HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – Evan Childs, formerly director of public relations for the New Jersey Credit Union League, was named director of governmental affairs, effective June 2. Childs replaces John Passuth, Jr. who previously held the governmental affairs position and who is no longer working at NJCUL. Childs joined the League in May 2002. He has a degree in political science from Montclair State University where he also studied law. Prior to coming to NJCUL, he worked as Chief of Staff to two former members of the New Jersey State Legislature. As director of governmental affairs for NJCUL, Childs will be responsible for maintaining a positive legislative environment for credit unions by acting as chief lobbyist and liaison to federal and state legislators and policymakers; coordinating grassroots efforts; reviewing and formulating positions on federal and state legislation concerning credit unions; and overseeing all fundraising efforts for federal and state PACs.
