NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -CreditunionsROCK.comr, a Web site dedicated to helping the “wired generation” become financially savvy consumers, has been renovated. Some of the upgrades include a menu navigation system enabling visitors to find what they need easily and quickly; the High School Central channel, which teaches teens how to read an earnings statement and how to craft a useful budget; it also highlights the issues teens should keep in mind when looking for a first job; and new calculators and recent financial articles. The site was created in 2000 by the Michigan Credit Union League to educate young adults about financial issues while spreading the credit union philosophy. Experts say that this group of youths born from 1981 makes up 28% of the U.S. population and has a multi-billion dollar purchasing power. Ironically, while this group is very tech savvy and wields formidable financial power, it also is one of the most poorly educated groups in matters of personal finance Most Michigan high school students graduate with few of the personal financial skills they need to support themselves, according to a recent survey of graduating high school seniors conducted by the Michigan Jump$tart Coalition for Financial Literacy.
