SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Alamo Chapter of Credit Unions has recently sponsored a fundraiser luncheon and State of the Credit Unions update for Congressman Henry Bonilla (R-Texas). San Antonio Federal Credit Union President/CEO Jeff Farver emceed the event at the SACU corporate office. “Congressman Bonilla has been a friend to the credit unions and we appreciate his willingness to listen to us. We want our government representatives to realize that credit union membership offers the individual a choice, and we feel it is important to preserve that option for everyone,” Farver said. “It takes leaders such as Congressman Bonilla and our president to get this country moving forward.” Congressman Bonilla said that he appreciated hearing from credit union representatives in his district who are serving the underserved in the community. “I grew up in an underserved area in San Antonio. My family may not have had more than a hundred dollars at a time to put in the credit union, but they were proud to have the opportunity to keep their money there,” said Bonilla. “When you talk about economic issues, I am pro free enterprise, pro business, pro people and pro freedom in terms of the way individuals can use their money.” Credit union representatives in attendance included Jim Minge, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union and President of the Alamo Chapter of Credit Unions; Tim Haegelin, CEO of City Employees Federal Credit Union; Tom Whitmore, CEO of Air Force Federal Credit Union; Watt Prichard, Chairman of Texas Credit Union League (TCUL) and CEO of River City Federal Credit Union; Jeff Huffman, TCUL; Fermin Acosta, Government Employees Credit Union of El Paso; John Worthington, Security Service Federal Credit Union; and Kelli Larsen, Firstmark Credit Union.
