INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana credit unions have teamed up to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Riley Hospital for Children by launching the Credit Unions for Kids Indiana Online Auction. In a first for credit unions here, a total of 86 items such as dinner certificates, golf passes, sports tickets, hand-made treasures, mini-vacations and even dinner with an NFL quarterback, were up for bid. The auction idea originated at Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union when a staffer’s two sons were stricken with a rare form of cancer. The credit union had collected a number of one-of-a-kind items like autographed photos, television series scripts, to sell at a traditional auction to benefit the hospital where the sons were being treated. Unfortunately as plans were being made for the event, one son passed away. The auction was put on hold until recently. “The time is right for us to re-visit the auction idea,” said Bill Connors, president/CEO of PEFCU. “We originally wanted to use the auction proceeds to benefit the hospital, and since Riley has such a tremendous partnership with Indiana’s credit unions, we wanted to open the opportunity statewide. By partnering with the League, we were able to create the online auction format so that everyone in Indiana could get involved.” Purdue Employees FCU provided a majority of the auction items. The auction will close at noon on Monday May 12.
