Congratulations to PSE Credit Union, Parma, Ohio for applying to expand their membership to all of Cuyahoga County! All other credit unions in Cuyahoga County need not worry because even Navy Federal could not truly service this area effectively. PSE CU’s average asset growth of 6% per year over the past five years is negligible and loan growth over the same period was negative. However the credit union has a decent infrastructure of branch locations, and the community charter may help increase growth and add members that previously were unable to join a credit union. I see nothing wrong with this concept. and PSE is simply playing by the existing rules. Cardinal CU received its first community charter in 1997 encompassing the cities of Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake and was recently approved for Lake County which abuts Cuyahoga County to the east. Our advertising reached most residents in the county prior to the expansion and we were forced to turn down many that inquired about membership. These individuals now have the ability to join a credit union. I thought membership growth and cooperation was part of the credit union concept. James P. Hartman General Manager/CEO Cardinal Community Credit Union Mentor, Ohio
