WASHINGTON-The May calendar for Credit Union House is filling up rapidly with leagues interested in having a say inside the Beltway. As Congress returns from its spring recess to many issues important to credit unions such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act reauthorization, regulatory relief, retirement plans, and check truncation, many credit union leaders will be in Washington to greet them. Each of the bookings with Credit Union House is in conjunction with a Hike the Hill, according to CUNA Vice President of Communications and Media Outreach Pat Keefe. On May 1, the Colorado Credit Union System will be using the facility, while the Texas Credit Union League will be following up on the 7th and South Carolina on the 8th. Brandon Pugh with the South Carolina league said that Thursday morning, representatives will be meeting with NCUA Board Member Deborah Matz at Credit Union House. Members of the league then are scheduled to meet with Senator Lindsey Graham (R), Congressman Jim DeMint (R), and Congressman Henry Brown (R). Finally, members of Congress and their staffs are invited to join the South Carolina credit unions for a reception at Credit Union House the evening of the 8th. The following week the Kentucky Credit Union League will be on Capitol Hill on the 14th. Prior to the Memorial Day district work period (May 26-30), the Arizona Credit Union League will slip into town May 21 and the Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island Credit Union Leagues will occupy Credit Union House on the 21st and 22nd. Calls to the other leagues were not returned in time for deadline. [email protected]
