DURHAM, N.C. – The Latino Community Credit Union has launched a financial literacy guide to teach immigrants about the financial system in the United States. Funded by a $57,000 National Empowerment for Financial Education grant, Building a Better Future offers lessons on how to use a financial institution, how to increase savings and write a budget, how to use credit, how to buy a car, how to buy a house, and how to file taxes. The free program consists of a student workbook and teacher's manual, available in both Spanish and English as a Second Language. The course is designed so that it is easy for ESL teachers to incorporate financial literacy with the vocabulary, writing, reading and grammar activities.
