WASHINGTON- The Hill, a newspaper covering Congress, recently recognized CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica as one of the top “Members-of-Congress-Turned-Lobbyist.” Mica and 20 other former members of Congress were honored in the March 26 issue of the publication. The Hill based its selection on input from current members of Congress, their office and committee staff, as well as other lobbyists. In the polling, The Hill crosschecked certain names “that keep turning up as top power brokers.” In addition to Mica, others who made the list of top members turned lobbyists included former House Republican Leader Bob Michel (Ill.), now of law firm Hogan and Hartson; former Ohio Senator Howard Metzenbaum, now with the Consumer Federation of America; former Senate Democratic Majority Leader George Mitchell (Maine), currently with law firm Piper Rudnick; and former New York Representative Bill Paxon, now with law firm Akin, Gump, Straus, Hauer & Feld. Mica, 59, formerly served as a House Democrat in the Florida delegation for a decade. He has served as CUNA’s president since 1996.
