San Jose Credit Union, Calif., has donated $4,242.03 each to San Jose Activities League and the San Jose Firefighters Burn Foundation. Every year, SJCU staff organizes a variety of events such as Silent Auctions and Bake Sales to raise funds for these two special organizations that dedicate much of their time to helping the youth in the San Jose community. Chartway Federal Credit Union, Virginia Beach, Va., has presented a check for $103,500 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia. The donation has made Chartway FCU the largest contributor in the entire Virginia Chapter. Chartway’s contributions successfully granted the wishes of 23 local Hampton Roads children with life-threatening illnesses. Wescom Credit Union, Pasadena, Calif., staffers have donated their time and cooking abilities to help the East San Gabriel Valley Coalition for the Homeless and the American Cancer Society. Through WeCare, an employee-run charitable organization, staffers recently spent a weekend preparing and serving 140 robust Italian dinners and making 144 “well-rounded” sack lunches for the destitute. U.S. New Mexico Federal Credit Union, Albuquerque, has donated over $20,000 to charitable organizations in 2002events throughout the year. In addition to the donations, 65 credit union employees participated in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk and Make A Difference Day.
