BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Glenn Wilson, the newly appointed Commissioner of Commerce for Minnesota, made an appearance at the Minnesota Credit Union Network’s Board of Directors meeting March 21 to better acquaint himself with credit unions in the state. Wilson is the newest member of the Department of Commerce. He was appointed by Gov. Tim Pawlenty in January. “As banking institutions have grown beyond their community and state boundaries, they have lost touch with their customers,” said Wilson, which is where credit unions come in. “The Governor and I appreciate how you fit in to the general economy.” One of Wilson’s goals for the year is to “provide fair, knowledgeable and expedited service to credit unions.” The Department of Commerce is currently working on legislation that expands the period between examinations by six months, along with other provisions as part of the department’s annual banking bill aimed at fine-tuning current law.
