ALEXANDRIA, Va. – After serving 30 years in the credit union movement, State Department Federal Credit Union President/CEO John C. Adkin has announced he will retire effective July 31, 2003. Under his leadership the credit union’s assets grew from $100 million in 1984 to $634 million. “My career with SDFCU has been intensely rewarding,” said Adkin. “I have had the privilege of working with the finest minds in the credit union movement and I will surely miss the people.” During his tenure, Adkin was instrumental in the development of committees that enhanced peer networking in the area such as the Capital Regional Roundtable in Washington, D.C. and the National College Advisory Board. Adkin may soon be adding author to his list of accomplishments since his post-retirement plans include completing a book he started to pen.
