BRUNSWICK, Maine-Government Employees Credit Union of Maine recently announced that it will transfer operations of its Brunswick Naval Air Station facility to Navy Federal Credit Union as of March 21. Beginning Feb. 13, the two credit unions are conducting dual operations until March 21, when they will transfer completely to $17 billion Navy Federal. Staff from both credit unions will be on hand to assist members during the transition. “We are committed to providing all our members with high-quality products and level of personalized member service they have experienced with a credit union that has been serving the community for over 70 years,” John Greenlaw, president and CEO of the $87 million credit union, said. He added that Navy Federal will retain GECU’s current employees. Members’ savings accounts and loans will be retained by GECU, but, starting March 21, GECU members can no longer complete account transactions at the current location. Military and civilian Department of Navy personnel working at Naval Air Station Brunswick are within Navy Federal’s field of membership. GECU serves individuals living and working in the State of Maine who are employed by the local, state or federal government, including military and their immediate family members. GECU will continue to serve members in the Brunswick-area via online banking, toll-free phone access, ATMs, and their branches in Portland and Augusta. The Brunswick location will be Navy Federal’s 97th branch office.
