George Myers, DCUC Grand Marshall, passes

WASHINGTON – George Myers, past president and grand marshall of the Defense Credit Union Council, passed away Feb. 17. He was 92. The cause of his death was not disclosed. DCUC President/CEO Roland Arteaga said Myers’ “contributions to the Defense Credit Union community, and the credit union community at large, were unparalleled. Here is a man who literally gave his heart and soul to the movement, but beyond that, he gave his life to taking care of people.” Arteaga added that Myers “was the centerpiece of professionalism, volunteerism, and patriotism.and for that, we shall never forget.” Myers was involved with credit unions for over 30 years, including working as public relations director and deputy director for CUNA; and serving as the DCUC’s executive director (now president) for 13 years. He is credited with DCUC’s success in becoming the trade association for all U.S, defense credit unions, and he was inducted in to the DCUC’s Hall of Fame. Myers was also one of the incorporators of the Consumer Federation of America, and it was while serving as CFA president in 1975 that he was named by President Ford to the President’s Consumer Advisory Council. In 1975, CFA awarded him the Esther Peterson Award for Distinguished Consumer Service. Funeral services for Myers will be held Feb. 22.
