WASHINGTON-Preliminary numbers from CUNA’s annual CEO survey showed that its member credit unions still view bankruptcy reform as the number one legislative priority going into the 108th Congress. Not only is it the top priority, but the number of CEOs listing it as the most helpful legislative issue for their credit unions increased, according to CUNA Vice President of Political Affairs Richard Gose. Despite the disappointments of the last few years in not getting a bill signed into law, 68% of CEOs taking the survey responded, unprompted Gose said, to an open-ended question that bankruptcy reform would most benefit their credit union of all legislative issues. Over the last two to three years, Gose said, that number has hovered around 50%-51%. More final data will be released this week during CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference.
