Educational Employees Credit Union, Fresno, Calif., and its subsidiary, Educators Financial & Insurance Services have donated $1,000 to the Central California Forum on Refugee Affairs. The donation will be used this year to provide scholarships for deserving students. Only students who are a member of one of the communities served by the Refugee Forum – such as Lao, Hmong, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Slavic, Ethiopian, Afghan – and who reside in the Central California area will be considered. EECU donated over $30,000 last year to support scholarship programs, and this year established a $25,000 grant program to assist students who are pursuing a post high school education. Nazarene Credit Union, Brea, Calif., has donated $6,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Employees raised funds through monthly payroll deductions, selling raffle tickets and hosting several fundraisers. El Paso Employees Federal Credit Union, Texas, employees have raised $5,500 to benefit The Rainbow Room. The Rainbow Room was developed by Community Partners of El Paso, as a resource for Child Protective Services’ caseworkers to help meet the emergency needs of abused and neglected children. In a store-like setting, caseworkers have immediate access to all those necessary items for the children and families in need. Names of contributors were placed on Rainbow Cards that were displayed in the lobbies of the credit union’s five branches. Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, Phoenix, has donated $120,000 to the Valley of the Sun United Way’s fundraising campaign, a record for the credit union’s involvement with the agency. Through nearly 500 local programs, United Way provides solutions to the most critical human care needs throughout Maricopa County.
