Training Opportunities Increase for Canadian Credit Union Employees

TORONTO, Canada and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Canadian credit unions have just taken a step to help keep employees on the cutting edge. The Credit Union Institute of Canada (CUIC), the national educational and training arm for Credit Union Central of Canada, announced that they have selected Docent, Inc. of Mountain View, Calif. to provide an electronic learning infrastructure for a new national learning organization. The new courses will be available to 20,000 credit union employees working at 650-credit unions across nine Canadian provinces. These employees serve 4.5 million members. The program will go live sometime in early 2003. A name for the program still has to be announced. The goal is to give each credit union employee a personalized portal where they can learn a variety of subjects including: regulatory compliance guidelines, risk assessment tools, product information, etc. Docent will also offer the students teacher meetings through the web. Virtual classrooms will also be available. “One of the biggest challenges for credit unions today is to effectively and cost-efficiently provide staff with the knowledge necessary to deliver exceptional member service,” said Cheryl Byrne, Executive Director, CUIC. “With 20,000 employees spread across the country, that is no easy task. Docent’s comprehensive business performance management suite will provide the foundation for revolutionizing training in the credit union system.” CUIC has $64 billion in assets.
