California Credit Union League Coalition Against AIDS, San Francisco, Calif., of over 160 credit union staff, members, family, friends, and vendors, walked to raise over $36,000 and ranked 14th of all top fundraising teams. All proceeds from AIDS WALK 2002 benefit 38 AIDS organizations in the Bay Area. The San Francisco Chapter of Credit Unions, Calif., has participated for the first time in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Race for the Cure. Members of the San Francisco Chapter were on hand to represent San Francisco credit unions and support the worthwhile cause. Bay Media CU and Spectrum FCU raised almost $1,500. FAIRWINDS Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., has donated $5,000 to the Bahia Shrine Paper Crusade for Shriner's Hospitals for Children. This organization provides medical care to children with Orthopaedic, Spinal Cord Injury, or severe burns at no cost to the child or their family. New York State Credit Union League, Latham, N.Y., has raised $3,321.50, along with dozens of toys and stuffed animals to benefit the Domestic Violence Services at Equinox Inc. for children in the organization's shelter. Funds were raised by selling terrycloth stuffed puppies as part of the NYSCUL's annual community involvement program, Credit Unions Care for Kids. The donation will go to purchase much-needed toys, books, games, videos and arts and crafts for use by children at the shelter.
