Hundreds of subscribers have told us that they think Credit Union Times is the best credit union publication they receive. We humbly say thank you and then continue to seek ways to make this publication (and its companion daily news Web site) even better. That's exactly what the entire editorial staff of Credit Union Times did in early December as 2002 wound down. A full day was spent closeted in a nearby hotel tackling a three-page list of editorial product topics submitted by the editorial staff for discussion. The goal was simple: find ways to improve. Going in it was agreed that there would be no sacred cows to be avoided in the lively and candid discussions. Editors, reporters, photographers, and production staff all checked their egos at the door. Every aspect of both the print and Web versions of Credit Union Times was fair game. Among the topics put under the editorial microscope, besides overall editorial content of course, were such very specific topics as headlines, leads, layout, photography, artwork, charts, special reports, style, deadlines, statistics, conference coverage, departments, current and new features, news sources, proofing, assigned beats, correspondents, photo captions, letters, opinions, the overall graphic presentation of each weekly issue, and much more. At the end of the day, it was decided not to do a detailed article on the many changes and improvements that will be implemented immediately as a result of the editorial meeting, but instead let the publication and Web site speak for themselves throughout 2003.
