There were a few surprises this year in the credit unions participating in the name change game. Here are a few of the more notable name changes that occurred in 2002: With a sponsor company declaring bankruptcy and all the negative publicity associated with it, Enron Federal Credit Union quickly emphasized the credit union positives by becoming StarTrust FCU. In a sign of the times, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Federal Credit Union changed its name to Credit Union of New Jersey to better reflect its membership. When its sponsor company tried to put the squeeze on Motorola Employees Credit Union-West it opted to continue on as TruWest CU. Dealing with a 67 year-old legacy, McDonnell Douglas West Federal Credit Union incorporated classic blue and gray colors from its history pages as part of its name change to NuVision Financial CU. The $1.5 billion Hewlett-Packard Employees Federal Credit Union looked back to its very beginnings to become Addison Avenue FCU. JaxNavy Credit Union celebrated its 50th anniversary by steering off into the future with a new name- VyStar FCU. Over in the corporate credit union network, Wisconsin Corporate Central CU changed its name to Central Corporate CU, in an effort to reflect that it serves CUs in states other than Wisconsin.
