SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Golden 1 CU found its new CEO at another billion dollar credit union. Teresa Halleck, formerly president/CEO of the $1.2 billion State Employees CU of Maryland, landed the corner office at The Golden 1. This was one of the most sought after jobs in the industry this year. According to The Golden 1 CU Board some 1,100 people applied for the job, coming from a variety of different industries. A top-ranking CUNA official was among the applicants. Halleck’s credentials attracted her to the board. She was once Assistant Dean for Operations and Finance at the University of Maryland at College Park as well as CFO/SVP and Controller for Maryland Federal Bancorp. Going forward Halleck sees non-traditional competitors, such as Wal-Mart, as CUs’ biggest threat.
