Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union, Gaithersburg, Md., has sponsored two local organizations with financial, volunteer and educational support: Stepping Stones Shelter and Wells -Robertson House. Stepping Stones is the only homeless shelter for families in Montgomery County. The Welles-Robertson House is a home for recovering alcoholics and addicts. In addition, Mid-Atlantic FCU has celebrated the grand opening of its Gaithersburg branch. FAIRWINDS Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., has raised $10,640 during the FAIRWINDS 2002 Charities Golf Tournament to benefit the Greater Orlando Children’s Miracle Network. FAIRWINDS Charities, a charitable foundation of FCU, matched the money raised bringing the overall donation to over $20,000. Vantage Federal Credit Union, Brook Park, Ohio, has helped celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the City of Brook Park Recreation Center. Vantage was one of three key sponsors and provided funding for Identification Kits that were given out by the police department to area residents. Vantage also made popcorn for the event and brought along “Nickels”, the new mascot for youth and teens. GTE Federal Credit Union, Tampa, Fla., has raised $645 in just one day for the Bolesta Center, Inc., which provides therapeutic and educational programs for children with hearing impairments. In addition employees have raised over $17,300 for United Way charities. Credit Unions of South Florida, Miami, has raised 11,500 to benefit Children’s Miracle Network affiliate Miami Children’s Hospital. Funds were raised during a CUSF Golf Tournament and the sale of paper “balloons” at branches. Ninety-two players participated in the golf event vying for hole-in-one prizes including $10,000, two airline tickets, a digital camera and a set of golf clubs donated by CUNA Mutual.
