DULUTH, Ga. – Who says corporate cooperation is dead? Georgia Central Credit Union and First Carolina Corporate Credit Union recently participated in the joint Georgia/South Carolina League Volunteer and Management Institute Conference on October 24-28th in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The corporates, which have distinct fields of membership, worked together to coordinate their involvement in the conference, sharing exhibit space and distributing co-branded promotional items. "When we heard that the Leagues in Georgia and South Carolina were planning to combine their fall education conferences, the corporates immediately decided to follow suit," says David Brehmer, President/CEO of First Carolina Corporate Credit Union. Greg Moore, President/CEO of Georgia Central Credit Union, explains: "In the true spirit of credit union cooperation, the corporates wanted to make the most of an opportunity to promote the corporate network as a whole for its merit in providing credit unions financial services." In addition to the staff members of both corporates, a representative from Corporate Network eCom (a U.S. Central subsidiary), provider of MemberStreet, a suite of credit union e-commerce solutions, also was present. "With all the competition that's taking place now in the network, it was rewarding to be able to show how corporates can still work together for mutual benefit," said Brehmer. Moore agreed, adding "I believe we can accomplish much more, and provide a great deal more value to our member credit unions, through collaboration, than by competing for the same piece of business." More than 350 volunteers and professionals from 70 credit unions from Georgia and South Carolina attended.
