ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The teaming of ESL Federal Credit Union security staff and Atlanta Police Detective Vince Velazquez has led to the capture of a suspected murderer within three days of the crime being discovered. When ESL FCU was contacted that an Atlanta member had been found murdered, Security Manager Robert Lukasiewicz launched an investigation into the members debit card activity and found it had been used since his death. ESL Electronic Services Manager Tari Hilliker with the help of the third party technology-based system group had developed a program that would notify ESL within one minute of debit card “pre-authorizations”. Pre-authorizations were then immediately communicated to Detective Velazquez so that he could plan and monitor activity. Within minutes of another purchase Velazquez and several Atlanta police officers apprehended the suspect. Detective Velazquez, who remarked that they do not often get this type of cooperation from banks in Atlanta, praised ESL FCU for their efforts.
