ATLANTA – ATM giant Diebold said it is partnering with Microsoft to develop solutions for the financial industry built around Microsoft technologies and open standards. At BAI's Retail Delivery Conference & Expo 2002 being held in Atlanta this week Diebold is introducing Agilis, a new open standards-based platform for the financial industry. Based on Windows and designed to work with Web services such as those based on the Microsoft .NET architecture, Diebold said the new software makes it quicker and easier to add Web content and transactions to ATMs, regardless of the brand of terminals within the network. Diebold believes this new software gives financials more options to increase functionality of their ATMs using the ubiquitous Web. "Web services can be used for real-time currency conversion, sending simple text messages, creating maps, providing headline news and stock tickers, as well as aggregating Web content from multiple sources," said Danny O'Brien, senior vice president of Global Product Management and Engineering for Diebold
