MADISON, Wis. – CUES has named Gary Base, president/CEO of Community CU, Plano, Texas, its Executive of the Year. He was presented the award at an awards banquet held Nov. 3 at the CUES’ CEO Network in Dana Point, Calif. John Fiore, president/CEO of Motorola Employees CU and last year’s Executive of the Year, presented Base with an engraved crystal award. Base joined Community CU in 1987 and the CU has grown by more than 350% in assets and 250% in membership. The $1.1 billion CU serves 205,000 members. Base thanked all of his mentors and CU employees “who’ve helped him succeed over the years.” According to CUES, to win this award the person must show exceptional leadership skills, be committed to professional development, contribute to the success of their CU, play an active role in CUES and its councils, and participate in civic and community affairs. Recipients can only be CEOs, and must be a regular voting member of CUES for the last three years.
