South Carolina Federal Credit Union, North Charleston, employees have donated their time and muscle to the Trident United Way's Day of Caring. Eight employees from the credit union volunteered to paint rooms at two agencies that receive funding from United Way. FAIRWINDS Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., has donated $3,000 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association during a telethon broadcasted live on local television station FOX 35. FAIRWINDS proposed a 3-minute on-air challenge to the Central Florida community to dig deep in their pockets to raise money for the cause. During the challenge, MDA received an additional $1,500 raised by the community. FAIRWINDS CU employees also volunteered their time to help answer phones and receive donations. Overall, MDA raised $871,900 from the Central Florida Community. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., has collected over 1,000 books during its Books for Children campaign. Members and employees donated books throughout the summer. Books will be handed out to local shelters and childcare facilities in 15 counties. Lansing Area Credit Unions, Lansing, Mich., including Auto Body Credit Union, Capital Area School Employees Credit Union, Financial Health Credit Union, Lansing Automakers Federal Credit Union, Lansing Community Credit Union, Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, and State Employees Credit Union joined together for a softball tournament to benefit the United Way. Eight teams with over 90 credit union players battled it out. The event raised over $350 for United Way and a championship and runner-up trophy were awarded to Michigan State University Federal Credit Union's two teams, which took first and second place. Motorola Employees Credit Union-West, Scottsdale, Ariz., has hosted Family Safety Day to educate community members about safety. Experts from the Phoenix and Austin Fire Departments, including the big red fire truck, were present to share fire and home safety tips. Volunteers from Sam's Club and Boy Scout Post 906 Explorers in Phoenix, and Sam's Club in Austin provided child fingerprinting and photo identification. Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, Bridgewater, N.J., has raised $25,000 during its 10th Annual Golf Benefit to support Ocean of Love. Ocean of Love was founded to support children with cancer and is devoted to helping kids and their families cope with the emotional and financial difficulties associated with this illness. Portland Teachers Credit Union, Ore., has donated $5,000 to the Portland Housing Center. The Portland Housing Center provides education, counseling and other services that promote the ability to access affordable and stable housing in the Portland metropolitan area. Ulster Federal Credit Union, Kingston, N.Y., has raised $1,271 to benefit the Children's Home of Kingston through this year's Credit Union's Care for Kids campaign. The Children's Home is a residential treatment center for boys, ages 8-21, who need specialized placement in a structured setting. It offers a variety of programs and services designed to build a hopeful future for children and families in the Hudson Valley and surrounding communities. Mission Federal Credit Union, San Diego, Calif., has sponsored "A Fairway to Help the Homeless" and raised funds to benefit the county's first homeless school Monarch High. The San Diego County Office of Education runs the school, which helps homeless teens. Over $10,500 was raised during the event. Boeing Wichita Credit Union, Kansas, has raised over $2,500 to benefit the March of Dimes. The credit union has $310 million in assets and serves 45,000 members.
