WASHINGTON-Receipts dropped significantly for the Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC) in August as giving reached near highs for the year coming into the homestretch of election season. Total disbursement from CULAC, CUNA’s Political Action Committee (PAC), topped $175,000, one of the highest amounts in 2002. However, receipts dropped to just $55,814, when they are typically over $100,000 and sometimes reach more than $200,000 over this year. The California Credit Union League PAC gave $11,000 in August for a total of $83,500 for the year. Additionally, the Michigan Credit Union League PAC contributed $2,250 for a year-to-date total of $39,500. Low receipts did not stop CULAC from making several $5,000 contributions to congressional candidates, including Senator Tim Hutchinson (R-Ariz.), Speaker of the House Denny Hastert (R-Ill.), and Representatives Leonard Boswell (D-Iowa), John Dingell (D-Mich.), David Dreier (R-Calif.), Dan Burton (R-Ind.), Mark Souder (R-Ind.), John Linder (R-Ga.), and Adam Smith (D-Wash.), as well as Candidate Denise Majette (D-Ga.), North Carolina Democratic Congressional Candidate Brad Miller, Candidate Mike Feeley (D-Colo.), Candidate Lincoln Davis (D-Tenn.), and Iowa’s Democratic candidate in the House John Norris. North Carolina Republican Senatorial Candidate Elizabeth Dole received the statutory maximum $10,000 between the primary and general elections.
