BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – CU-Vote, is helping get the vote out. The credit union consumer advocacy council has set up voter registration displays at over 120 credit union locations from Huntsville to Mobile. In a recent survey, 82% of credit union members surveyed indicated they will be likely to vote in the upcoming election and CU-Vote has dedicated itself to educating credit union members about current issues facing credit unions, and candidate views on credit union issues via a 2002 Voter Guide. Candidates for every state and federal office in Alabama were sent informational packets explaining the nature of credit unions, along with a survey; the compiled results were then published in the Guide. In addition to providing 10,000 voter registration forms, CU-Vote has distributed the 2002 Voter Guide and has made campaign information readily available about the major candidates running for office at each voter registration display. “The voter registration displays are a great opportunity to increase exposure of CU-Vote to the individual credit union member,” said Alabama League President Gary Wolter. “CU-Vote is an important tool to our advocacy efforts in Alabama, and we are excited to see the potential that CU-Vote has in educating credit union members about `credit union friendly candidates’ and credit union issues.” The voter registration displays will run from Labor Day through October 11.
