WASHINGTON-NAFCU congratulated House Judiciary Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), also the bankruptcy reform conference committee chairman, on the successful negotiation of the conference agreement and urged its swift passage as lawmakers return from the August recess. "This legislation is well balanced and goes a long way toward making appropriate and long-needed reforms to the bankruptcy system," NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker wrote. He also reminded Sensenbrenner that credit unions are particularly hard hit by bankruptcies as member-owned, non-profit financial institutions.
