WASHINGTON – The Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institution Fund (CDFI) has awarded individual credit unions, as well as the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (NFCDCU $5 million in funding in fiscal year 2002. In addition to the previously reported $2 million award to the NFCDCU in June, CDFI has awarded 22 credit unions a total of over $3 million. Individual credit unions receiving the awards from the CDFI’s core program, and their amounts, include: Food Processors Credit Union Modesto, Calif. ($592,500); Homesteaders FCU, ($430,000); Latino Community Credit Union, Durham, N.C. ($520,000); Lower East Side People’s FCU, New York ($574,000); Syracuse Cooperative FCU, Syracuse, N.Y. ($345,400). The following credit unions, and their amounts, were awarded funds from the CDFI’s Small and Emerging CDFI (SECA) program: Bethex FCU, Bronx, N.Y. ($45,000); Bexar County Teachers FCU, San Antonio ($100,000); Bushwick Cooperative FCU, Brooklyn, N.Y. ($25,000); Carter County FCU, Ekalaka, Mont. ($50,000); Caswell Credit Union Yanceyville, N.C. ($100,000); Chatham-Lee Credit Union Pittsboro, N.C. ($150,000); Church Koinonia FCU, Chattanooga, Tenn. ($125,000); Covenant Savings FCU, Copperas Cove, Texas ($106,000); Kootenai Valley FCU, Libby, Mont. ($25,200); Kulia Ohana FCU, Wailuku, HI ($30,000); Northside Community Development Fund, Pittsburgh ($166,000); Northwest Baptist FCU, Seattle ($200,000); Word of Life FCU, Honolulu ($50,000); Zion United CU, Denver ($47,200.) The Adair County Indian Credit Association, in Stilwell, Okla. received $28,000 and Lac Courte Oreilles FCU in Hayward, Wis. received $25,800 from the CDFI’s Native American CDFI program.
