MADISON, Wis.-CUNA is welcoming two new board members this year. Mary Shipe, CEO of Alhambra Credit Union in Phoenix, and Richard Ghysels, CEO of First Financial Credit Union in West Covina, Calif., have won seats on CUNA’s Board. Shipe will represent credit unions in District 5, Class A (the Southwest and Plains states; up to 13,999 members). Ghysels will represent District 6, Class C (the West and Pacific region; at least 52,000 members). Incumbents Barry Jolette, CUNA’s chairman and CEO of San Mateo Credit Union, and Holly Herman, CEO of Kraft Foods Federal Credit Union were both re-elected in contested races. The growth of their respective credit unions pushed them into different class sizes. Herman will represent credit unions serving 14,000-51,999 members (Class B) in the Northeastern states (District 1). Jolette will represent credit unions serving 14,000-51,999 members (Class B) in the West and Pacific (District 6). Due to Herman’s election to represent a new class size, a vacancy was created that will be decided by a special election beginning shortly. It will be for the seat representing credit unions with at least 52,000 members (Class C) in the Northeast (District 1). The board members will begin serving their terms at the conclusion of the annual business meeting during CUNA’s Symposium in Orlando in September.
