SAN DIEGO, Calif. – With the number of lawsuits multiplying, and the growing demand of legal services, San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union has added legal services to its member service menu. Through a partnership with Oklahoma-based Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., for a $17.00 monthly charge, which is automatically debited from the member’s credit union checking account or credit card, the plan provides members with consultation regarding almost any legal matter, including home purchase, will preparation, property law, defective products, child support, divorce, credit matters, bankruptcy, IRS audits, guardianship, DUI, consumer rights, and more. According to the National Resource Center for Consumers of Legal Services, an average law abiding American encounters a legal situation an average of four to six times per year. “For one easy to manage, monthly fee, our members are provided with tangible benefits – like will preparation – as well as the peace of mind that comes from knowing they are covered in the event of some unexpected legal issue,” said SDMCU President/ CEO Stuart Camblin. For legal matters not covered within the plan, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., estimates an average member saving of 50%-70% in attorney’s fees. As part of the partnership with P.P.L.S., the $250 million credit union receives a portion of the member enrollment fees. San Diego Metropolitan CU is the first local credit union to offer members Pre-Paid Legal Services. In addition to SDMCU members, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., currently provides legal plans to over 6.5 million individuals in the United States.
