SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. – This 4th of July readers of the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times were treated to a glimpse of the human side of Summit Credit Union. “We decided to take this rare opportunity to put our heart and soul out front,” said SCU Vice President of Marketing Maureen Maddox. “So we used the full page to talk about the community and the literacy program instead of saying `oh here is a great deal’.” The “Literacy is Freedom” center spread was dedicated to those companies that sponsor the Newspapers in Education program, which promotes literacy by providing schools throughout Dane County with newspapers. Summit CU is the only credit union sponsor of the program. Designed in-house by the marketing department, the four-color, full-page credit union advertisement (shown on this page) touched upon a “faith in freedom” and asserted the credit union’s belief that “One of our most precious rights is the freedom of ideas.” As a program sponsor, Summit CU was able to run the ad at an extremely discounted rate of $1,500 and according to Maddox there was “no way” Summit could pass up the opportunity. “The feedback from members has been wonderful. We do a lot for the community but don’t usually toot our own horn,” said Maddox. “Many members told us that they felt like they could see what we do behind-the-scenes and were happy that we were able to show in graphic way just who we are.” [email protected]
