I thought Mike Welch’s publisher’s column where he disagrees with the opinion that small credit unions are the “backbone” of the credit union movement, was dead on. I see it everyday in our business. It seems a lot of the smaller credit unions try to perpetuate that notion. I can cite several instances where our larger clients have funded software development efforts to the benefit of many of our smaller clients. There are even a couple of times where two of our larger clients are picking up the entire processing expense for new start-up credit unions. In both instances we’re talking about an investment of over $100,000 for equipment, software licenses, installation and training. Certainly not insignificant. It’s all about attitude, and caring for the member. I see among our client base our larger clients continually demonstrating care and concern about smaller credit unions. Size has nothing to do with it. Good column. John Edwards XP Systems Senior Vice President, Business Development Moorpark, Calif.
