<p>Credit Union ONE, Ferndale, Mich., employees have pitched in to clean up and beautify the playground of the Poverty and Social Reform Institute and the “Leaps and Bounds” Child Parent Center. As part of the PSRI “Clean Up, Spruce Up” mission, the volunteers were busy planting flowers; trimming trees; painting playground equipment; and building two canopies to provide shade and utility sheds to house the children’s toys and playground equipment. The Poverty and Social Reform Institute is a private, non-profit organization that collaborates with community networks to provide comprehensive solutions to the problems of children and their families living in poverty. U-Lane-O Credit Union, Eugene, Ore., has raised more than $11,000 for the National Parkinson’s Foundation during its James H. Warsaw 3-on-3 Classic. Over 300 people participated in the basketball tournament. The National Parkinson’s Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease. Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robins, Ga., has raised $1,050 for the March of Dimes. Fourteen employees participated in WalkAmerica. In addition, the Robins Rocking for a Cure team has raised over $1,900 for Relay for Life. The team was presented the “Best Team Spirit Award” for its efforts. Relay for Life is an overnight walking event with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Chetco Federal Credit Union, has opened its doors to the Brookings-Harbor Cub Scouts, Den 6-Pack 124, for a tour to learn how credit unions work. Safe deposit boxes, teller stations, the loan department, and the board of directors’ conference room were all included in the “must see” list of stops. The Cub Scouts left with credit union souvenirs and memories of sitting in the directors’ chairs. Indiana Credit Union League, Indianapolis, has announced that Indiana credit unions have raised $102,085 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Representatives of Indiana’s credit unions appeared on a portion of the national telethon that was broadcast from James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Riley is the only CMN hospital in the state. Contributions over the years have gone to maintain Rehab 1-2-3 and fund the “Light Up a Child’s Life Program”, which makes art therapy, pain management, educational and other programs available to patients.</p>
