<p>WASHINGTON-North Dakota voters last week voted by referendum to repeal opt out legislation on financial privacy passed a year earlier by the state’s legislative body, according to the state’s Web site (www.state.nd.us/). The legislation was similar to that of the federal law in the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. At the final tally, though still unofficial, 86, 218 (72.20%) people voted to repeal the measure. A total of 119,414 people voted on the referendum. Total voter turn out was 26.63%. According to the Electronic Privacy Information Center, bankers in the state raised more than $100,000 in an effort to defeat the measure that also covers credit unions in the state.</p>
