MADISON, Wis. – Credit unions still have a little ways to go still, but for the first time in five years they are approaching the 50% mark in share draft account penetration among their members. After sitting in the 30% range from 1996 until 1999, credit unions broke the 40% mark in 2001. As of December 31, 2001, 41.1% of credit union members had checking accounts with credit unions.
