Credit unions may have advantage in workplace ATMs

<p>ARLINGTON, Va. – Credit unions may have an edge in the placement of workplace ATM’s because employers already view credit unions as providing benefits to their employees, according to ATM & Debit News. Generally workplace ATM placement has been flat, the publication reported, because more employees now have direct deposit and often bank via their computers. ATMs can provide credit unions a way to get back into workplaces where they once may have had offices but which they moved away from in their bids to expand their fields of membership. According to Rick Scali vice-president of Real Time Data Management Services, an ATM provider that ships about twenty ATMs a year to workplaces, credit unions will find ATM kiosks more economical than branches. The publication also reported that a survey by the Illinois based Hewitt Associates found that 39% of employers surveyed allowed ATMs on their premises, 24% offered banking services and 19% offered credit union services.</p>
