LAS VEGAS – Bonjour! NACUSO welcomed a record number of attendees-more than 400 representatives from CUSOs and credit unions-to its 2002 Annual Conference held May 1-4 at the Paris Las Vegas Casino Resort. The four-day event was replete with break-out sessions on timely issues, sponsor showcase presentations, and guest speakers including Vince Lombardi Jr. and Dan Clark, author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul." Attendees, of course, had sufficient time to sample the French cuisine served at the many fine restaurants in the hotel, to spend some time (and cash) at the casino, tour the Strip, and take in a few rounds of golf. Among the many highlights of the conference was the annual naming of CUSO of the Year. There were two winners this year. NACUSO named CUSO Financial Services, a broker/dealer owned by 65 credit unions, Financial Services 2002 CUSO of the Year, and the Co-Op Network, the largest electronic funds transfer network in the U.S. owned by 600 CUs, the 2002 Operational CUSO of the Year. The two CUSOs were selected based on five criteria: leadership, strategic planning, member and market focus, process management, and business results. Accepting the award for CFS were Valorie Seyfert, president and Amy Beattie, COO. Jim Hanisch, executive vice president and chief information officer, accepted for the Co-Op Network.
