Dues issue common `everywhere': Egan

<p>COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Painful as it may be, the 40% dues increase adopted by the Colorado Credit Union League at its annual convention May 4 underscores a “difficult set of circumstances” facing state Leagues across the country this spring, according to Daniel Egan Jr., the chairman of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (CU Times, May 8). Egan, who is also president of the Massachusetts League which also services New Hampshire and Rhode Island, said both big and small CUs face a tough “balancing act” in vigorously supporting their state League’s legislative efforts but finding the dues cost very high. “The debate you saw here is going on everywhere including my own states,” said Egan who was in Colorado for festivities marking the retirement of Colorado League President Carroll D. Beach. Egan, who spoke briefly at a League Awards Luncheon, said “a vote is underway this week in Rhode Island,” though he declined to predict the outcome. A spokesman for the Colorado League said the dues increase in this state does not apply to Wyoming League that is serviced by the Colorado League. Wyoming CUs adopted a dues plan different from Colorado’s last year.</p>
