WARWICK, R.I. – MetLife Auto and Home division thinks it is never too early to start planning for a disaster. With several states declaring a "Severe Weather Awareness Week" to educate consumers about the importance of disaster preparedness, MetLife has launched a series of PEANUTST-themed posters called Play it Smart, Play it Safe! Designed to help families get started with their planning now, before a disaster strikes, the series is especially useful in teaching elementary and middle school students the importance of preparedness, helping them to develop good habits than can last a lifetime-and quite possibly save lives. "In the event that a natural disaster were imminent would you know what to do? Unfortunately, all too often the answer is `no,'" said Chris Cawley, senior vice president of customer service/chief claim officer of MetLife Auto & Home. "Many people – adults and children alike – are unaware that there are many steps they can take to protect themselves and their property, and that it's never too early to learn to `play it smart.'" Although disasters such as fire, flood, and earthquake impact thousands each year, according to Cawley, taking a few practical steps to safeguard property can minimize damages. "These posters provide these steps in a way that will appeal to kids of all ages," said Cawley. The six posters in the "Play It Safe, Play It Smart" series are presented in a colorful, easy-to-read format featuring PEANUTS characters, including SnoopyT. Each poster addresses a different peril, including Fires and Wildfires, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Severe Thunderstorms, Earthquakes, and Floods. Along with a variety of helpful tips on ways families can plan ahead, the posters provide advice on what to do during disasters, how to prepare for an emergency, and links to websites for those seeking even more information. "Simply put, these posters can benefit everyone," said Cawley. For more information call (800) 638-5433.
