CHEYENNE, Wyo. – While the U.S. made history at this year’s Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah Unified People’s Federal Credit Union made its own Olympic record. Seven Olympic torchbearers are all members of the $24 million credit union. According to torchbearer Gus Lopez, “there were 250,000 applications nationwide to carry the torch. It’s amazing that seven members of one credit union achieved this honor.” UPFCU President/CEO Camille said the seven-time honor shows that her members are “very community-oriented, very dedicated and active citizens”. The seven torchbearers included Annie Hamilton, manager of Union Pacific Railroad Operating Practices; Reed Jackson and Tim Kenny, UPRR conductors; Bob Krieger, UPRR steam locomotive engineer; Gus Lopez, City/County Health Department; Dominick Medina, a manager at Sunnyside Storage; and Larry Wessel, UPRR engineer. Combined, they have a total number of 149 years of membership in UPFCU. All the torchbearers were honored and touched by the experience. Perhaps Wessel summed it up best when he said, “I’m proud to be a part of the torch relay, and I’m proud to be an American.”
