SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The Golden 1 Credit Union has worked with Atlanta-based retail design/build firm International Banking Technologies to open its first in-store Wal-Mart Supercenter branch. According to Golden 1 CU Branch Operations/Call Center Senior Vice President Steve Stapp, when the doors opened the branch drew between 40,000 and 50,000 people a week. The $3.4 billion credit union has averaged 8-10 new accounts per day. "The Golden 1 has an aggressive growth strategy in place," said Stapp, "But until this branch, we had only been promoting our membership through traditional channels like direct mail and ad campaigns. The foot traffic here is tremendous and our presence here opens the door to potential new members such as Wal-Mart shoppers and employees." The full service in-store branch offers extended hours including evenings and weekends and is staffed by two tellers, a new account representative, a loan representative and a branch manager.
