<p>It's the 30th day of the new year and already I've experienced three exemplary acts of cooperation from our colleagues, some of whom I've never even met. As a $60M credit union with limited sponsor support, we don't have the resources some of the "big boys" have. On Jan. 21, we had staff development scheduled and no place to do the group computer-based training we had in mind. Barry Jolette, CEO of San Mateo CU, California (one of the "bigger boys") and CUNA Chairman, graciously loaned us use of his credit union's training room and his two excellent employees, including his VP-Human Resources, Lecia Roundtree, for the entire morning. We would have never been able to deliver that caliber of training to our staff without Barry or Lecia. And just yesterday, when I was desperate and trying to find some assistance taking possession of almost $80K cash across the country, two fine credit unions came to my rescue. After one very large credit union told me it would be too much trouble to assist us, Lonny Maurer, CEO of Belco Community FCU in Harrisburg, Pa. and his VP-Operations, Charlie Delmarcelle, made all the necessary arrangements to take delivery of our cash for us and then wire the money to us in California. And Patty Wood, VP-Operations for General Electric Employees FCU in Milford, Conn., also arranged for two of her branches, located in other areas of Pennsylvania, to do the same if necessary. It turned out we didn't need to impose on either credit union, but my employee in Pennsylvania and I both slept better knowing she would not have to transport thousands of dollars back to her branch in North Carolina. I feel so blessed to have worked in a movement for the past 20 plus years that epitomizes our true "people helping people" philosophy on a continual basis and would never consider any other type of career.
