<p>DETROIT – First the beetle and now a bank. Joining the ranks of companies like BMW and Nordstrom Inc., Volkswagen has begun offering banking services to its customers. Insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the bank will start slowly by offering auto and home loans to Volkswagen and Audi customers only. In addition, don't start looking for any "beetle" shaped branches, as services will be offered through the Internet, the mail or by phone. While plans are underway to offer Volkswagen and Audi credit cards in 2003, other financial products like checking accounts and CDs will be made available much later.</p>
