Brian Hague came to the credit union industry from a Kansas S&L. Hague said at the S&L he worked primarily with trading futures to hedge the investment portfolio. “I managed a group that did our version of ALM. We were doing NEV back then. We did it monthly instead of quarterly. Instead of the typical up and down 300 basis point test, we had 32 different scenarios,” said Hague. He joined CNBS in May of 1992 as an analyst working with advisory clients. In 1994 he was promoted to manage the advisory group. In 1995 Hague led the charge of CNBS’ new Investment Institute conference series. In 1996 corporate credit union advisory services also came under Hague’s purview. Hague was named CEO when CNBS was spun off from U.S. Central in 1998. Hague is a very hands-on CEO, but said he stays out of the day-to-day investment business of credit unions. “It’s been a long time since I looked at a bond.”
